Charts and tables make data easier to see and compare. Common ones are tables, bar charts, dot plots and waffle diagrams.
Ways to show data
ā¢ Bar chart ā bars whose heights show the amounts. ā¢ Dot plot ā stacked dots; the height shows the frequency. ā¢ Waffle diagram ā a grid of 100 squares where each square is 1%. ā¢ Table ā rows and columns of numbers.
Worked examples
Reading a total
- Favourite flowers: Rose 10, Lily 5, Daisy 4, Daffodil 1.
- Add them up: 10 + 5 + 4 + 1.
Answer: 20 people were surveyed.
Reading a waffle diagram
- A waffle diagram has 100 squares.
- 40 squares are coloured for chocolate.
Answer: 40% chose chocolate.
